Syria
The data here covers equipment for the army of the Syrian Arab Republic, including the short time it was united with Egypt as the United Arab Republic. It includes the forces of Assad and the equipment captured by rebel groups during the ongoing civil war. Syria began the period with refurbished German WW2 arms - there were unconfirmed reports of Panthers being acquired - but became a major customer of Soviet-bloc equipment after the Water War of 1964. Syria achieved the staus of a favoured nation for the USSR in the 1980s and received tanks of a quality not exported anywhere else outside of the Soviet Union.
